'PRIME' Program

Little Dixie's Mobile Business Information Center (MobileBIC) has been designed to meet several needs of the people of southeast Oklahoma.

A full-sized recreational vehicle has been specially outfitted with a small mobile computer lab with Internet capabilities, business planning software, a business reference library, a television and VCR, and a business-building video library.   All of these are available without charge.

The Mobile BIC will travel a 10 1/2 - county area providing business support and training for those seeking help developing a business plan, obtaining small business financing, advertising/marketing, creating a website, and other needs.

Areas served include Atoka, Bryan, Choctaw, Coal, Haskell, Hughes, Latimer, LeFlore, McCurtain, Pittsburg and Pushmataha Counties in southeast Oklahoma.

In addition, Economic Development Services include a Young Entrepreneurs Program specifically designed to encourage small business ventures by junior high, high school and college students.

A standardized route of Mobile BIC stops has been developed to make accessing the program easier.   Scheduled stops are planned for each of the Choctaw Nation field offices, community centers and cultural centers located in Durant, Atoka, Antlers, Bethel, Broken Bow, Idabel, Hugo, Wilburton, Poteau, Talihina and McAlester.

Program for Investment In Microentrepreneurs

Little Dixie Community Action Agency was one of 69 organizations in 28 states selected to receive grants under the new Program for Investment in Microentrepreneurs (PRIME) Program.

The U.S. Small Business Administration is providing funds to community-based regional and national organizations that in turn will offer training and technical assistance to low-income and very low-income entrepreneurs.

Little Dixie's program is a partnership with the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, Rural Enterprise of Oklahoma, Inc. (REI), Oklahoma Department of Commerce and Southeastern Oklahoma Economic Development Network.   The $250,000 SBA grant is for the first year of a five-year program. A 50% local match is required.

Small businesses and microentrepreneurs in 11 counties of southeast Oklahoma will be served.  Through the partnership, two large vehicles will provide a mobile Business Information Center to persons throughout the area.

"The PRIME program was created to help the smallest of the small businesses," SBA Administrator- Hector V. Barreto said.  "These are entrepreneurs at the most basic stage of starting a business and who typically require the greatest amount of committed service and guidance.   In order to succeed, they require training and technical assistance that must be accessible."

Mobile Business Information Center services are provided via  a bus serving 10 1/2 counties of southeast Oklahoma.
