T&MA Contractors

Technical and Management Assistance (T&MA) Self-Help Housing Contractor

Little Dixie provides technical and management assistance to potential and existing Section 523 Self-Help Housing organizations.  An existing organization is one that currently has a Mutual Self-Help Housing Program in place and is receiving funding from USDA Rural Development to operate the program.  A potential organization can be any organization interested in implementing the Section 523 Mutual Self-Help Housing Program.

Little Dixie began operating the T&MA Program in 1980 and works closely with USDA Rural Development offices to provide this service.

We currently assist the South Central Region of the United States, consisting of Arkansas, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, Louisiana, Missouri, Nebraska, Kansas, and Wyoming. In this eleven state region, we have eight Self-Help Specialists working with 26 grantees providing T&MA in following areas:

  • Staff Training
  • Resource Referral
  • Board Training
  • Grant Management
  • Pre-Development Services for Potential Grantees*

T&MA staff

Our staff strives to keep their region properly informed of current issues and updates that impact the self-help community.  They provide both on-site and group workshops to current or prospective grantees.  Since 1980, Little Dixie’s T&MA staff has assisted more than 100 Self-Help Housing grantees in obtaining millions of dollars for program oversight and management.

Specific services provided include:

  • Assistance with Pre and final applications to USDA/RD 
  • Provide staff training to grantees (i.e. accounting, how to recruit potential homebuyers, assistance to  construction supervisors on how to better serve families, and overall program management)
  • Monitoring the 502 and 523 accounts for grantees (i.e. review of books to ensure proper expenditure of funds).
  • Assist Rural Development with quarterly reviews
  • Conduct high risk assessments and follow up  assessments
  • Assist with work plan implementation 
  • Provide training on SHARES (Self-Help Automated Reporting Evaluation System)
  • Networking opportunities
