Creating Jobs in
Southeast Oklahoma
Using state-of-the-art technology to help entrepreneurs and
existing business owners develop better planning, Little Dixie
teamed with several partners to establish a One-Stop Business
Information Center .
Southeast Oklahoma is extremely fortunate to have such a
facility since only a handful of these services are located in rural
areas across the nation.
Finding reliable and timely information can be the difference
between success and failure for a small business and turning that
information into useful knowledge requires experience.
The center is equipped with the latest personal computers,
graphic workstations, CD-ROM technology and management videos that
provide small business access to market research databases, business
planning, and financial spreadsheet software. There are also numerous
publications on how to start specific businesses.
The unique center was opened in September 1997. Since that time
a number of new businesses have opened in the area. While not all
have been successful, the percentage of failures is much less than
areas without a Business Information Center.
The BIC offers a vast array of business software to expand an
entrepreneur's knowledge in business plan development, bookkeeping.
and projections. They can also create unique marketing tools such as
flyers and web pages.
The BIC is open to the public and is "free of charge". Services
include a chance to surf the net, discover financing opportunities,
attend training sessions developed to enhance business opportunity,
and tax consulting.
The One-Stop Business Information Center is a result of a partnership between Little Dixie, Rural Enterprises of Oklahoma, Inc., Oklahoma Small Business Development Center (Southeastern Oklahoma State University), Oklahoma Department of Commerce, and the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma.
